Day 2 Grove Park to (almost) Cyrstal Palace

After an almost 7 month break, largely due to the fact we'd forgotten we'd embarked upon this project, we finally did the next section of the ring! Rather later in the day than originally planned, we took the 13:06 train from Charing Cross to Grove Park, and made our way up Baring Road to join the ring at Railway Children Walk, which sounds far more candy-coated than it actually was - being a rather grim graffitied pathway next to a depressed looking block of flats. None the less, it took us to a caged railway bridge over the line we'd just travelled on, with a view of the City, and Hither Green cemetery.

We entered Downham which is a very large housing estate, with has plenty of space and some woodland which we were directed through. The woodland featured various wooden sculptures such as wooden tea cups and a wooden train. We also saw some rather amazing Christmas decorations presumably responsible for some stratospheric electricity bills and perhaps the odd peeved neighbour!

After crossing the Bromley Road, we entered Beckenham Place Park, which also is the site of a golf course. Hills were involved and we we at this point looking forward to a cup of tea in the cafe, however when we got to the House, it was covered in scaffolding and looked somewhat less attractive than we'd hoped.

We made our way under New Beckenham Rail station, and then began cutting off official ring diversions through Cator and Alexandra parks, and bee-lined it to East Penge where we had chips and abandoned hopes on furthering the loop that day. We took the 16:15 (?) train to Victoria.
